Benzoyl peroxide is another alternative, it is found in many over-the-counter remedies and though the results are said to be slow in coming they are common place in many bathroom cupboards. 

The idea and objective of home acne treatments is to reduce the visible signs of acne, and some treatments most certainly have the potential to have that effect, though people are different.  The quest is to find a balance that works for you.
